Places acquire meaning through the people that make up its history. The ordinary, the relentless, the heroic stories of people caught in remarkable times provide the focus and foundation of this series.
The Arizona Memorial Museum Association will produce a Personal History Series of video documentaries, books, and online oral history video and audio interviews. This series will profile the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who made the United States’ victories during the Pacific campaigns of World War II possible. Most of these primary sources will be made available online free of charge to teachers and schools to assist curriculum development. Others will be available through the AMMA bookstore. Teachers with a valid educator's ID will receive a 10% discount.
The first documentary in the series is Shadow Warrior. This film chronicles the intense and emotional journey of Navajo Code Talker Teddy Draper, Sr., who returned to Iwo Jima for the first time in 60 years for a reunion commemoration in March 2005.
